Therapist
Supervised by Dr. Angela Peña, PhD, LPC-S
My name is William (Bill) Brownfield, and I am a mental health counselor under the supervision of Dr. Angela Peña, Ph.D. As a Marine Veteran, I faced my own difficulties acclimating to civilian life, navigating emotions, struggle, grief, and eventual success. I am also a husband, father, and grandfather. My primary goal is to be a voice and an ear for others as they work to find normalcy and learn to cope with their own struggles. I have a strong belief that people inherently want to be healthy and productive and know their own needs better than anyone else.
I became a therapist originally to work with other Veterans who, like me, struggled to figure out who we were after serving. I soon realized that so many of us get a little lost along the way and need a hand getting back on the path to becoming who we were meant to be.
Who I Work With: I work with adults and couples who are struggling to navigate life's changes, and I specialize in men’s issues.
Therapeutic Orientation: My foundation is in Person-Centered therapy, and I incorporate elements of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Psychoeducation to help you understand the "why" behind what's happening in your life.
What to Expect in Sessions: You can expect a safe, judgement-free space to speak freely. I will help you be as honest as you can with yourself as we collaborate to decide the best path for you to take. After all, it's about you controlling your own life.
When I’m not working, you can find me outdoors enjoying nature, working out, or watching sports with my very patient wife and our two Boston Terriers.
In My Clients' Words: Clients have told me that I create an environment where they can truly reveal themselves without fear of judgment.
Very often we are afraid to ask for help because we think, “that’s for other people,” or “I don’t have it that bad.” It’s okay to ask for help. It is not a weakness. No one can do everything on their own, and that's perfectly okay.
I use a Person-Centered approach; I believe that there is no one right answer for everyone so we all need to be approached as individuals.
No, I cannot give you the answer to fix what is bothering you. What I do is help you explore different facets of the issue to help you find an answer that works for you.
I have been practicing for 4 years as a counselor.
I understand that everyone is different and has their own needs. I work to create a safe space by keeping in mind that no matter what is going on in our lives, we are all just people trying to do our best. Sometimes we just need a little help.
Your milestone is waiting. Let’s reach it together!
